why choose me for the Shillington scholarship?

My passion for design began when I was a sales intern for 1-800-Flowers my junior year of college. A month into the internship, each department gave a presentation of their yearly plan. I have always loved and had an eye for design, but when the creative department presented, it was at that point that I knew what I wanted to pursue a career in. I was so fascinated that I asked if I could spend a week of my internship with the creative team. Since I didn't know how to use Photoshop, InDesign, and other design tools, I was tasked with creating mood boards. I was actually excited to go to work that week. I was going into my senior year of college and was in the process of pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Marketing at the Martha Love School of Business at Elon University in North Carolina. I met with my advisor about switching my major to Graphic Design, but it was too late as I wouldn't have graduated on time.

After graduation, as I was researching schools where I could get a degree in Graphic Design, I came across Shillington. When I read the testimonials and went to the information session in June, I knew it was the perfect fit. I read and met people who were in the same position as me with full-time jobs. I have a full-time job in marketing and my dream is to get a career in graphic design, but I need to learn the tools in order to do so. With this scholarship, I would be able to pursue my passion for design.

My favorite part of my current marketing job is the creative aspect. Every time we have our agency design advertisements I say to myself, "I could design this even better." The prospect of being able to do what I am passionate about every day sincerely excites me.
